PSALM 8:1-2
Years back, a preacher instructed several children to write down a list of questions they would ask Jesus if He appeared in person the next week. Adults were also asked to do the same. The outcomes were shockingly different. Some of the children asked: “Will we have to sit about in robes and sing all day in heaven?” “Is my puppy going to heaven?” “What is up with my grandfather up there?” Their questions were almost always devoid of any doubt that heaven existed or that God acted supernaturally.
Adults, on the other hand, posed a separate set of questions: “Why do awful things happen to good people?” “How can I be sure You are hearing my prayers?” “Why is it that just one path leads to heaven?” “How could a loving God allow such a misfortune to befall me?”
Children, for the most part, are unencumbered by the worries and sorrows that plague adults. Their faith makes it easier for them to trust God. Children keep the psalmist’s viewpoint of life – an everlasting perspective that acknowledges God’s greatness, while grownups get lost in hardships and sorrows (Psalm 8:1-2).
God is trustworthy, and He longs for us to trust Him in the same manner that children do (Matthew 18:3).
An intimate walk with God lifts our gaze from today’s struggles to the triumphs of eternity.
🙏🏼Father, may we find again the dreams of childhood when thoughts of You filled us with peace and we longed to know You more. Give us an unwavering faith in You.
