FIVE MINUTES WITH GOD

GENESIS 12:1-8

Many Christians yearn to spend time with God on a regular basis, praying and reading His Word. A hectic schedule, ironically, frequently distracts them. Frustration mounts as a gap in their schedule appears to be filled by activities.

Oswald Chambers wisely recognised the transformative effect of just five minutes in God’s presence. Even a short time spent in prayer and reading the Bible has enormous value: “It is not the thing on which we spend the most time that moulds us, but the thing that exerts the greatest power. Five minutes with God and His Word is worth more than all the rest of the day.” Now, this may appear to be an overstatement on Chambers’ part. However, because God is powerful, even a brief period of prayer can have significant benefits.

Our days are sometimes crowded with commitments that prevent us from spending time listening to and responding to God. But, regardless of where we are, taking time to build our own spiritual “altar” to the Lord, as Abram did (Gen.12:8), opens the door to His transformational power. If you have been having trouble setting aside time for God, start with five minutes and see where it takes you. Our God is eager to meet with us and demonstrate His might in our lives.

🙏🏼It astounds us, Almighty God, that You would want to spend time with us! Thank You for Your interest in hearing from us.
