JEREMIAH 31:31-34
Michigan residents sometimes joke that they have two seasons: winter and road construction. Because harsh winters wreak havoc on road surfaces, crews get to work as soon as the ice melts and the ground warms up. Despite the fact that they call their job “construction,” much of it appears to be “destruction.” Simply patching holes is not an option in some instances. Workers must build a new road to replace the existing one.
When God is at work in our lives, it can feel like construction season in Michigan. Throughout the Old Testament, God warned His people that the path between them and Him would be undergoing extensive renovations (Isaiah 62:10-11; Jeremiah 31:31). When He sent Jesus, the Jews thought their path to God was being destroyed. Jesus, on the other hand, was not destroying anything. He was about to complete it (Matthew 5:17). The old road, which was paved with laws, was replaced by a new route, which was paved with Jesus’ sacrificial love.
God is still at work, replacing old ways of sin and legalism with Jesus’ perfect way of love. It may feel as though everything familiar is being destroyed when He takes away our old patterns of thinking and acting. God, on the other hand, is not destroying anything; instead, He is constructing a better path. And we can trust that the final outcome will be improved interpersonal relationships and a stronger relationship with God.
🙏🏼Spiritual advancement is frequently preceded by turbulence. Help us Lord to accept Your road construction season.
