TOO BLESSED TO GRUMBLE

PSALM 107:1-8

I have plenty of time to read bumper stickers on vehicles when driving on the road. Some are funny, some are clever, and still others are simply distasteful. However, a bumper sticker I recently saw gently challenged my heart about how I often engage life. “Too blessed to grumble,” the sticker plainly stated.

As I pondered those words, I must confess that I felt convicted. Too frequently, instead of focusing on the beautiful blessings my heavenly Father has given me, I find myself lamenting times in life that do not go my way. That day, reading that simple message reignited my commitment to be more intentionally and carefully grateful, because my God has been good to me in more ways than I can count.

Psalm 107 is a song that seeks to rectify ungrateful attitudes. “Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!” the psalmist pleads to hearts seared by ingratitude four times. (vv.8,15,21,31). We have a lot to be thankful for, even in the darkest of times. May we learn to be grateful to God for everything that He has done for us!

🙏🏼 REFLECT AND PRAY:

“Are you ever burdened with a load of care?

Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?

Count your many blessings, ev’ry doubt will fly,

And you will be singing as the days go by.”
