2 KINGS 5:1-15
If you Google “influential people,” you will get a variety of lists of “the world’s most influential people.” Political leaders, business entrepreneurs, and athletes, as well as people from science, the arts, and entertainment, are included on these lists. The names of the cooks and cleaners who work for them are not listed. Those in so-called lowly positions, on the other hand, have a lot of power over the individuals they serve.
Two kings and a prophet of God appear in the account of Naaman, a high-ranking military leader. Naaman was cured of leprosy, a career-ending and life-changing disease, thanks to the words of the servants in the background. Naaman’s wife was told by a young servant girl captured from Israel that a prophet in Samaria could heal him. When Elisha’s instructions to bathe in the Jordan River enraged Naaman, his servants persuaded him to do so. As a result, Naaman was restored to health and declared that there is no God in the entire world except in Israel.
What a lovely illustration of our role as followers of Jesus! We are called to be persons of influence, servants of the Lord who guide others to the One who has the power to change people’s lives.
Christ sends us out as His servants to bring others in.
🙏🏼 Lord, we want to be like Naaman’s servant girl, strong and bold enough to touch the lives of others by leading them to You.
