JOHN 4:27-38
Food is not just a necessity for me; it is also a wonderful source of enjoyment! When I am hungry, I like to sit down to a well-prepared meal. When the disciples returned to the well where Jesus was interacting with the Samaritan woman, I believe they were hungry for lunch. They implored Him to eat (John 4:31). He said He had something to eat that they do not know about (v.32), leading them to question if someone had already brought Him food (v.33).
I wonder if the disciples were so preoccupied with eating that they could not see beyond their picnic. They were unaware of the gravity of what was happening at the well. To Jesus, the most important thing was to fulfill the will of the One who sent Him and to complete His mission (v.34). He was focused on this woman’s spiritual needs, which she urgently needed and that only He could provide.
It is easy to get caught up in the demands of the moment. But Jesus urges us to go beyond our own interests – our own “lunch” – and see the souls who are seeking answers to their deepest longings.
So, join Jesus at the well, and let Him use you to tell other people about the spiritual food that only He can provide.
🙏🏼Dear Lord, may our eyes be fixed not just on the things we are interested in, but lift our eyes to see the
needy souls around us.
