1 SAMUEL 3:7-14
A man tried to beat traffic by veering past a lane of cars that had come to a halt in an act of impatience. The lane he pulled into, however, had recently been paved with fresh cement, and his car got stuck. For his impatience, this driver paid a high price.
According to the Bible, a king paid a severe price for his impatience. Saul acted impatiently, hoping that God would bless the Israelites in their battle against the Philistines. Saul grew impatient when Samuel did not appear at the appointed hour to give a sacrifice for God’s favour, and he disregarded God’s command. Saul’s impatience drove him to believe he was above the law and to appoint himself as a priest without authorization. He believed he could disobey God without consequences. He was completely wrong.
When Samuel arrived, he chastised Saul for his disobedience and predicted that he would lose the kingship. Saul’s refusal to wait for God’s plan to unfold prompted him to act hastily, and he lost his course as a result of his haste. His impatience was the shining example of his faithlessness.
If we wait patiently for the Lord to fulfill His purpose, we will be guided by His presence.
