THE FROME HOARD

COLOSSIANS 1:27–2:3

A treasure trove of 52,503 Roman coins was found by metal detector Dave Crisp near Frome in Somerset, England in April 2010. The coins were housed in a ceramic container and dated from 253 to 305 AD. Most coins are made of weathered silver or bronze. This became known as the Frome Hoard.

While Crisp’s treasure makes us dream of finding similar riches, as Christians we must embark on a different type of treasure hunt. What we are looking for is not silver and gold. Rather, what we seek is to collect the precious gems of understanding so that we can fully know both the Father and Christ, in whom all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden . (Colossians 2:23) The hidden treasure of knowing the Lord better is found in the Bible.

If we read God’s Word hastily or recklessly, we lose its deep insights. These truths should be sincerely sought with the full attention of those who seek hidden treasures.
