ECCLESIASTES 2:1-11
Some people believe that life is not calculated by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. I think this thinking is misleading.
If we measure life with mind-boggling moments, we lose the wonder of ordinary moments. Eating, sleeping and breathing seem “common” in the sense that we do them day-to-day, usually without giving much thought to what we are doing. But they are not common at all. In fact, breathing is more magical than anything that takes our breath away.
King Solomon may have had more astonishing times than anyone, but he expressed his doubt that none of it made sense.
The life of Solomon reminds us that it is important to find joy in “ordinary” things because they are truly marvellous. Bigger is not always better. More is not always an advancement. Busier does not make us supreme.
Instead of looking for meaning in breathtaking moments, we should find meaning in every breath and make sense in every breath.
🙏 Lord help us to know that the miracle of breathing is greater than the breathtaking moments of life.
