MALACHI 4:1-3
Sunrise suggests the notions of illumination and hope, the beginning of a new day and thus a chance for happiness and improvement. It is a symbol of birth and rebirth, of awakening. The coming of light. Resurrection.
Malachi prophesied: “But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in His wings…” (Malachi 4:2) This is God’s irreversible promise that our Lord Jesus will come and all creation will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God (Romans 8:21).
Each new sunrise is a reminder of that eternal morning when bright heaven’s Sun will arise with healing in His wings. Everything will be made right. There will be no financial struggles, no sicknesses, no aging. When Jesus returns we will “go out and leap like calves released from the stall” (Malachi 4:2 NIV). This is our hope.
For us today, the Sun of Righteousness came as the light of the world two thousand years ago. He came as the light to illumine the hearts of men. He came as the light of life to a lost and dying world. He brought healing. He is the fountain of light for all who put their trust in Him and He is our righteous Saviour, “The Lord Our Righteousness.” He delivers us from all present difficulties and challenges of life each day. Every morning, every new day brings hope for those who trust in Him.
Jesus said, “Surely I come quickly” (Revelation 22:20). Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
* Thank You, Father, for the healing touch of Your Son Jesus Christ who has clothed us in His righteousness and removed the scales of unbelief from our hearts. Deliver Your people from the grip of sin and sickness this day. Look down with mercy on all who do not know Your grace and have rejected the light of Your truth. Draw men from the kingdom of darkness into the light of the glorious gospel of grace. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
