ARE WE THERE YET?

DEUTERONOMY 8:2

Are we there yet?

I agree with some persons who feel this question is a universal question. Generations of children have asked it. As they grow to become adults, they have to answer the same question when their children ask.

I wonder how many times Moses heard that question from the Israelites, and the Israelites from their children. They had left Egypt with the hope of entering into the promised land but were wandering in the wilderness for years.

In life, it sometimes seems as if we are wandering in circles. We feel lost. We want to ask God, “Are we there yet? How much longer?” At such times, it helps to remember that the journey, not just the destination, is important to God. Just as it was for the Israelites, He uses it to humble us, test us, and show us what is in our hearts.

Every journey God allows us to undertake is for a purpose – someday we will see the light. Let us trust Him, walk by faith and not by sight.

* God of our pilgrimage, You have given us a desire to set out on our journey. Help us to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus,
that whatever we encounter as we travel, we may seek to glorify you by the way we live through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
