MATTHEW 7:24-27
The rate of building collapse in Nigeria has been steadily increasing over the past few years and this has drawn much concerns.
The death rate from collapsed buildings may not be comparable to those from other horrible incidents such as plane crashes or road accidents, but death from building collapse does occur and the numbers are noteworthy.
One major reason why most buildings collapse is that the foundations are too weak.
Jesus used the image of building a home on top of a faulty foundation to explain the far riskier danger of building our lives on unsteady ground. He explained how some of us construct our life on solid rock, ensuring that we hold tight when we face fierce storms. Others erect their lives on sand; and when the tempests rage, their lives tumble with a great crash.
There is much wisdom offered to us in this world and much of it is good and beneficial. But if we base our life on any foundation other than humble obedience to God’s truth, we may only be inviting trouble. Doing what God says is the only way to have a house, a life, built on the rock.
“My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand;
all other ground is sinking sand,
all other ground is sinking sand.”
