1 KINGS 19:9
A minister was once feeling defeated in his life and ministry and decided to go to a bar in a hidden side of town to drink away his sorrows. As he sat staring into his drink, a man who was already drunk walked up to him, looked at him with piercing eyes and said, “What are you doing here?” That question brought him back to his senses. In a few minutes he was out of that bar and on his way home.
Elijah had called for the execution of the false prophets of Baal, prayed to the Lord once again and the Lord answered his prayer and sent rain. But the Queen, Jezebel sent a message to him, threatening to kill him. On the heels of great victory, Elijah turned and ran for his life.
Here was a mighty prophet, giving in to fear and discouragement. What brought Elijah to this point?
Some of us today are just like Elijah. We have allowed the challenges of ministry, our jobs, family life, etc. to weigh us down. Some have lost hope and set aside their trust in God.
God is saying to us today, “What are you doing here? Why have you isolated yourself from your Christian friends, allowed your problems to be magnified, and forgotten your God?” Get up! Dust yourself off and go back to where God has placed you!
