LUKE 24:13-35
Luke tells the story of the risen Christ appearing to two disciples who were walking together along the road from Jerusalem to Emmaus. Like Christians and churches who are blinded by preoccupation with their own immediate difficulties, these two disciples were blinded by sadness and their hopelessness seemed to prevent them from seeing God’s redemptive purpose in things that had happened.
Jesus joined them and became not just their companion on that journey, but a friend to them. He then opened their hearts and eyes to understand God’s word and plan.
The Walk to Emmaus offered them the opportunity to rediscover Christ’s presence in their lives, to gain fresh understanding of God’s transforming grace, and to form friendship that foster faith and support spiritual maturity.
We need such close friendship and fellowship with the Christ and His church today. We need a walk to Emmaus.
