IS THAT YOUR FINAL ANSWER?

GENESIS 12:1-3

Many of us will recognize the title of this article as the catchphrase from the game show, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? As contestants sit in a seat opposite the host (usually called the hot seat) and answer questions in increasing difficulty, the host asks, “Is that your final answer?” to which they must respond that it is their final answer in order to “lock it in.” Only then will the show proceed to find out if the answer was the right one or not.

The contestants must lock in an answer, even when they are not sure they know the answer. Who knows, they might get lucky and actually pick the right one? However, life is not like that. God does not deal with us in such manner. Living for the Lord is a walk of faith that, on occasion, demands we declare we do not know the answer, yet proceed anyway. He does not compel us to choose when we are confused, rather He guides us to make the right choices, even when we do not know the right things to do.

The story of Abraham underscores this tremendous truth. In Genesis 12:1-3 we find the call of Abraham to leave his father’s house and go to a land he did not know (but will be shown by God).

Let us move on, trusting God even to show us what the next move will be. With Him, you do not need a final answer but His guidance each step of the way.
