JOHN 6:60-66
“I do not believe there are incurable diseases. God can heal anything,” said a preacher during an interview in 2016. He was 100% correct, but he became sick and died of corona virus in 2020.
What do we do when our expectations do not materialize?
John chapter 6 formed a critical turning point in Jesus’ ministry. Because some people did not understand who He was and what He was teaching, they departed from following Him.
Many people followed Jesus for the miracles He performed and to have their needs met. Others expected Him to be their political saviour. Some thought of Him as a great teacher, while another set quit following Him because His teaching was hard to understand.
Jesus still does not always meet all our expectations of Him. He meets expectations in line with His word and His divine will for our lives. He does what is ultimately to our advantage, despite what we ask for. Yet He is so much more than we can imagine. He is the provider of eternal life (John 6:47–48). He is good and wise; and He loves, forgives, stays close, and brings us comfort.
Our expectations may not have manifested in the way we think they ought to, but Jesus is still the kind of Saviour we need.
“Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.” (Habakkuk 3:17-18)
Wrap us in Your love, Lord Jesus, and bring us confident rest, as we keep following You.
