USING EXAMPLES TO TEACH

EPHESIANS 6:1-4

I was startled by a quote I saw in the optometrist’s office while waiting for my eye test: “Eighty percent of everything children learn in their first 12 years is through their eyes.” I began to consider things that children visually process from books, movies, their environment and watching people – especially members of their family in everyday interaction.

Consider the influential example of a parent, sibling, uncle, or aunt whose actions and consistency elicit children’s admiration. Although they are not yet perfect, they are headed in the right way. When our acts conform to God’s character rather than distort it, a powerful force for good is at work.

That creates a challenge for us. We can only reflect the love and steadfastness of our heavenly Father with the help of God.

As they watch us, our children learn far more from how we live than from what we say.

🙏 Heavenly Father, fill us and use us.
