PSALM 4
At night, what keeps you up? I have been struggling to find a solution to a problem lately, which has caused me to lose sleep and toss and turn in bed.
Does that sound familiar? We all succumb to worry at some point, whether it is over strained relationships, an unclear future, or anything else.
King David was in distress due to unfair accusations and doubts about his rule. He likely felt angry and spent nights stewing, but in Psalm 4, he decided to lie down and sleep in peace.
David’s ability to rest was a result of his confidence in God’s care, a theme that continues throughout the psalms. The phrase “be still” in Psalm 46:10 symbolises rest, with God being the source of it. Our ability to rest is directly related to our confidence in the Father’s love, care, and concern, allowing us to be at rest during times of anxiety and stress.
When our anxieties threaten, may God grant us the ability to rest in His strength and presence. We can “lie down and sleep” in His loving and guiding arms.
🙏 Dear Father, thank You for hearing Your children when they call. Help them surrender their worries to You and rest in Your power and presence.
