2 CORINTHIANS 4:7-15
A fine piece of jewelry is often tucked into a setting of dark coloured velvet when you buy it. I believe it is designed in this manner so that our attention is quickly drawn to the jewelry’s attractiveness. The beauty of the gift would be overshadowed if the package was lavishly decorated.
It reminds us of Paul’s comments about the ministry of Jesus through us – that the treasures are in jars of clay. It is easy to lose sight of the fact that we are the packaging and that His work is the treasure. As a result, we beautify our clay jars, taking credit for all we accomplish to glorify Christ. When we forgive someone, show mercy, or give generously, we want to bring honour to ourselves. The problem is that when we seek praise and validation for our deeds, we are competing with the brightness of God’s treasure flowing through us.
It is not about us, but about His glory, when we do things for Christ. He becomes more brilliant as we become less obvious. This is why, according to Paul, the treasure has been placed in clay jars so that God can be glorified. Besides, when did clay jars become significant? What makes them special most times is what is inside them!
🙏🏼Let the brilliance of the treasure of Christ shine through us as we live for Him, in His glorious name we pray. Amen.
