THE SCULPTOR’S CHISEL

JOHN 15:1-5

When sculptor Michelangelo was asked how he created his masterpieces, he explained that he simply removed the pieces of marble that did not belong. In a similar way, God often removes things from our lives that hinder our growth. Though the process may be uncomfortable, it is necessary for greater usefulness and fruitfulness.

In John 15:1-5, Jesus describes Himself as the true Vine, His Father as the Gardener, and believers as the branches. He teaches that fruitful branches are pruned so they can bear even more fruit. Christ also stresses that no branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain connected to the vine. Likewise, believers must abide in Him to live productive and God-honouring lives.

When God allows challenges, correction, or the removal of harmful habits, He may be pruning us for greater growth. Rather than resisting His work, we should trust His wisdom and remain close to Christ. The pain of pruning is temporary, but the fruit it produces is lasting.

🙏May Jesus, the true Vine, keep you abiding in Him, strengthen you through every season of pruning, and cause your life to bear lasting fruit for His glory. Amen.
