THE GLASS OF WATER

PSALM 3

He was given a glass of water by the counsellor, who instructed him to hold it. It felt heavier the longer he held it. Finally, he had to put the glass down since his hand was getting tired. The counsellor remarked, “I have learned that worrying can be like holding that glass.” He added, “Our fears weigh us down the more we worry over something.”

King David knew fear. His entire world had changed for the worse. His son Absalom was attempting to usurp the throne for himself by stealing the nation of Israel’s support from him. David had no idea who was on his side and who was opposed to him. He appeared to have no choice but to flee (2 Samuel 15:14).

David wrote a psalm, probably while running for his life, in which he declared: “I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and He heard me out of His holy hill” (Psalm 3:4). David turned to the Lord in the midst of his fear. God showed him mercy and gave him the throne back.

Limitations can be caused by a wide variety of worries. However, God will support us through our struggles as long as we surrender them into His capable hands.

🙏Lord Jesus, help us to put our worries in Your care, so we are not weighed down by them.
