ROMANS 8:1-2
A man was walking by some elephants when all of a sudden he stopped, puzzled because these enormous animals were just being held by ropes fastened to their front legs. No chains or cages. The elephants’ ability to escape their bonds was always apparent, but for some reason they chose not to.
He asked the trainer why the animals were just standing there without making any move to escape. The trainer responded, “Well, when they were very young and much smaller, we used the same size of rope to tie them, and at that age with less strength they could not escape. They are now conditioned to think they cannot escape as they get older and stronger. They think the rope can still hold them.”
So, to restrain the elephant, all you need is a strong rope.
Satan is capable of holding us hostage with a similar trick. The Bible reminds us that those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk in the flesh, but according to the Spirit are not subject to condemnation (Romans 8:1). We are liberated from the law of sin and death. But the enemy attempts to convince us that sin still rules over us.
What should we do then will? Think about what Christ accomplished. He put an end to the power of sin over us by dying for our transgressions. Experience true freedom by holding every thought captive in obedience to Christ.
