1 THESSALONIANS 5:1–11
In many communities, people keep watch at night because they know danger can come without warning. A night guard does not sleep on duty; he stays alert because he does not know when trouble may appear. Likewise, Christ’s return will be unexpected, so believers must remain spiritually awake.
Paul says the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. We are children of light, called to be sober, watchful and protected by faith, love and the hope of salvation. We must also encourage one another.
Let us refuse spiritual laziness. Study God’s Word, pray continually, love others and strengthen fellow believers. Our readiness for Christ must be evident in how we live each day.
