JOHN 20:17
For some, Father’s Day is a joyful and easy celebration and remembrance, while for others, it is a day of sorrow and regret for a relationship that once was and is now gone, or for a desired relationship that was never possessed. This makes worship easy for some and difficult for others.
Jonathan Edwards wrote to his daughter Lucy before his death, expressing his love for her. In his letter, he hoped that his children would submit cheerfully to God’s will and seek a father who would never fail them. This highlights the importance of finding a greater purpose in worship than earthly relationships.
Who is this loving, all-powerful Father in heaven that a dying man could find such solace in and use to encourage his children?
After His resurrection and startling appearance, Jesus revealed to Mary that He would go to both His and her Father—a revelation that was startling (John 20:17).
With this revelation—that they had the same Father—He amazed Mary and the disciples. Well, they do, and all Christians do, too! Our eternal security, our brotherhood, and our indwelling Spirit are all the same.
As believers in Christ, we are eternally secure in the Father’s love, content that His wrath has been appeased through Christ’s work on the cross.
Let deep satisfaction and joy be yours, as God in heaven, the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, the Wonderful Counsellor, the Eternal Father, is your Father.
🙏Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
