EPHESIANS 5:15-16; PSALM 90
“Westerners have watches. The Africans have time. In his book Impossible People, Os Guinness made this statement, using an African adage. That made me think about the occasions when I said, “I don’t have time,” in response to a request. I considered how schedules and deadlines control my life and the tyranny of the urgent.
“Teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom,” Moses pleaded in Psalm 90 (v. 12). Additionally, Paul said in Ephesians 5:15–16, “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”
Paul and Moses would probably concur that making good use of our time involves more than just keeping an eye on the clock. We can be required to adhere to a strict timetable, or we might be obliged to extend our time as a gift to someone.
We have a short moment to make a difference for Christ, so we must maximise it by not just looking at our watches and planners but showing Christ’s patient love to those He brings into our lives and living in the strength and grace of Christ, impacting our time for eternity.
🙏 Father, you have given your children all the time they need to accomplish what you have given them to do. May they use their time in ways that honour you.
