JOHN 19:1-8
The Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom, formerly known as the Crown Jewels of England, are a group of ceremonial royal relics that are stored in the Tower of London and include the royal regalia and robes used for coronations. They stand for both the authority and status of individuals who utilize them as well as the might of the kingdom.
The highest crown and the greatest honour belonged to the King of heaven, who wore something quite different. The soldiers placed a purple robe over Him and set a crown of thorns on His head during the hours of humiliation and anguish that Christ endured prior to His crucifixion (John 19:2). On that day, the crown which is normally a representation of monarchy and honour, became a weapon of ridicule and contempt. But our Saviour freely accepted our sin and shame by wearing that crown for us.
The One who deserved the most distinguished crowns took the worst for us.
