REVELATION 22:7-21
Future sporting and entertainment events, as well as the release of the newest gadget or book, are frequently preceded with a “coming soon” announcement. Though it can be months away, the objective is to arouse interest and excitement in what will happen.
The book of Revelation has an immediacy permeating the entire book. In the final chapter, the Lord states, “I am coming quickly,” three times (Revelation 22:7, 12, 20). Other translations of this phrase include “I am coming soon,” “I am coming speedily,” and “I am on My way!”
Given that these words were written about 2000 years ago, how is this possible? “Quickly” does not appear to fit our understanding of time.
The Lord is exhorting us to fix our attention on His promise that will be kept, rather than worrying over a specific time for His return. Our wonderful God and Saviour, Jesus Christ is coming back in glory, and we are invited to live for Him in this present age while we wait for that blessed hope (Titus 2:13).
