ANASTASIS

JOHN 5:24-30

Recently, I read about an old painting, searched for it, and when I found it, it left a lasting impression on me. Its name, Anastasis, which is Greek for “resurrection,” beautifully captures the triumph of Christ’s victory over death. In the painting, Adam and Eve are also being resurrected from their graves to receive eternal life by the Lord Jesus, who has just ascended from the tomb. The beautiful thing about this piece of art is how it portrays how the risen Christ dramatically overcame the spiritual and physical death that resulted from the fall.

The Lord Jesus foretold a future day when He will call believers into a new and exalted existence before He was crucified (John 5:28-29).

The grave is not final because of Christ’s victory over death. When someone we love passes away and we are left without them in this life, we naturally experience sorrow and grief. However, a believer does not weep as someone who is hopeless. All Christians will one day be resurrected from their graves and given glorious resurrection bodies as a sign of Jesus’ resurrection. We will therefore be forever with the Lord.

Christ’s resurrection ensures that we will also live.

🙏🏼Dear Lord, thank You for sacrificing Your life for our sins so that we might live.
