HEBREWS 12:3-11
One day my son pulled out a marker and drew a picture of me. His childhood depiction featured eyes, a nose, and a mouth, all circled on two long sticks (he told me those were the legs). Even though my young son got high marks for his efforts, his image did not quite capture the details that would have produced a strong likeness to me.
As children of God, we sometimes create inaccurate images of our Heavenly Father. We may see God as unloving when He corrects sinful patterns in our lives. And since discipline is painful (Hebrews 12:11), we can assume that God’s correction is a form of divine vengeance or the result of His wrath. In actual fact, it is proof of His love for us.
If you are facing the discipline of God today, remember that He is not scowling or vengefully shaking His fist. Think of Him as a concerned Father who lovingly corrects His children that He delights in (Proverbs 3:12).
🙏🏼Lord, when we sin and You discipline us, help us to see it is Your love in action.
