MATTHEW 22:34–40
A woman once noticed an elderly stranger struggling with his shopping bags. Though they had never met, she stopped to help him. Love looks beyond age, status or familiarity. God calls us to love people because every person bears His image.
In Matthew 22:34–40, Jesus was tested by a Pharisee asking which commandment was the greatest. Jesus taught that we must love God with all our heart, soul and mind, and love our neighbour as ourselves. These commandments capture the heart of God’s law.
Our love must therefore reach beyond those who are like us or easy to love. We should show kindness to strangers, forgive those who hurt us and care for those in need. Let God’s love shape how we treat everyone we meet.
