1 KINGS 3:10–15
A young apprentice is given the opportunity to ask his master for anything that would make his life easier. Surprisingly, he does not ask for money, comfort or recognition. Instead, he asks for wisdom to serve others well. His request reveals that his greatest concern is not what he can gain, but how well he can fulfil his responsibility. Our prayers similarly reveal the priorities of our hearts.
In 1 Kings 3:10–15, Solomon pleased God by asking for an understanding heart to judge His people wisely. Rather than riches, long life or victory over his enemies, he requested what would help him fulfil God’s calling. God was pleased and gave him wisdom, riches and honour.
Let us examine our prayers. Are we seeking God’s purpose or merely our personal comfort and recognition? May our desires honour God and bless others.
