CALLED BY NAME: A DEVOTIONAL ON MARY MAGDALENE

JOHN 20:16

In the early morning hush, a mother calls her child through the millet fields. The child knows the voice—warm, familiar, unmistakable. She turns and runs toward it.

Mary Magdalene, the first person to see the risen Christ, is a symbol of grace restored and love redeemed. After Jesus set her free (Luke 8:2), she followed Him with devotion, even to the foot of the Cross. It was grace that defined her—not her past.

At the tomb, lost in grief, she searched for her Lord. But in her sorrow, she heard her name: “Mary.” In that moment, everything changed. She recognised Him—not by sight, but by love. Christ entrusted her with the message of the Resurrection, making her the “apostle to the apostles” (John 20:11–18).

Her life is a witness that no sin is too great for mercy, no sorrow too deep for hope. She teaches us to wait, to weep, and to listen—for He still calls each of us by name.

🙏 May you hear the Lord Jesus as He lovingly calls your name. Amen.
