RUTH 2:8–13
Anne Herbert, an American writer, wrote the phrase “practice random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty” in 1982, which has since become popularised through film and literature.
Why should we show kindness? For those who follow Jesus, it is to demonstrate God’s tender mercy and kindness.
Ruth, a foreigner from Moab, was poor and utterly dependent on the kindness of people who took little notice of her. However, an Israelite showed Ruth grace and compassion, allowing her to glean in his fields. This compassion led Ruth to become Boaz’s bride, part of God’s family, and a lineage that led to Jesus, who brought salvation to the world.
We can never predict the impact of a single act of kindness done in Jesus’ name.
