ISAIAH 53:1-6
A man recalled his daily task every time he went to see his maternal grandfather. He took the sheep out to pasture every morning, returning by dusk. That was when he first realised how stubborn sheep can be. For instance, when they saw a farm, they would immediately enter it out of instinct, which repeatedly got him into trouble with the farmers.
During hot days, he observed sheep dispersing into bushes and heading for hills, causing him to chase them. He struggled to direct them away from danger, especially when robbers raided the field and stole stray sheep.
Isaiah’s statement highlights the concept of straying like sheep, as we tend to do what displeases our Lord, hurt others, and be distracted from spending time with God and His Word. This behaviour resembles sheep in the field, causing us to turn our own way and not be a part of the divine plan.
We have the Good Shepherd, who laid down His life for us and carries our sorrows and sins. As our shepherd, He calls us back to safe pasture, guiding us closer to Him.
