HEBREWS 10:5–18; GALATIANS 1:3–4
W. T. Stead, an English journalist, was known for his controversial social issues. He wrote about the danger of ships with an insufficient ratio of lifeboats to passengers. Ironically, Stead was aboard the Titanic when it struck an iceberg in 1912. After helping women and children, he sacrificed his life vest and a place in the lifeboats to save others.
Self-sacrifice is a powerful concept, as demonstrated by Christ himself. Hebrews states that Christ offered a single sacrifice for sins, perfecting those who were being sanctified. Paul describes this sacrifice in his letter to the Galatians, stating that Jesus Christ gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age. This powerful example highlights the importance of self-sacrifice.
Jesus’ sacrifice on our behalf demonstrates His love, rescuing us and providing assurance of eternal life with Him.
🙏 God of love and grace, the wonder of Christ’s sacrifice is beyond words. May our love respond with faith and worship.
