GO FEVER

NUMBERS 14:39-45; PSALM 37:7

After five delays brought on by bad weather, the space shuttle Challenger finally launched on January 28, 1986, amid a raging display of noise and flame. System failure caused the shuttle to disintegrate 73 seconds later, killing the entire crew of seven.

The disaster was believed to have been caused by a “go fever,” a fatal mistake involving disregarding precautions in a rush to a goal.

Our ambitious nature can lead to ill-advised choices, but we are also prone to fear, making us overly cautious. The ancient Israelites displayed both traits when they returned from spying on the Promised Land. After a fearful rebellion against the Lord, they developed “go fever” and were ready to invade the promised land. However, without God, the invasion failed miserably.

Focusing on the Lord leads to courage and wisdom, preventing impatience and fear. It prevents cowering and rushing ahead without Him.

🙏 Lord Jesus, help us to be patient.
