YOU FIRST!

PHILIPPIANS 2:1-11

On May 1, 1963, American Jim Whittaker and Sherpa Nawang Gombu of Tibetan descent ascended Mount Everest. Each person thought about the honour of being the first of the two to reach the summit as they got closer to the peak. Gombu smiled and refused Whittaker’s request to step forward, stating, “You first, Big Jim!” They eventually chose to ascend to the summit together.

Paul exhorted the Philippians to exhibit humility in spirit, which brings people together and prevents division.

We may refuse to insist on our way to resolve disputes, abandoning our right to be correct.

Walking in Jesus’ footsteps entails putting aside our own interests and acting in our neighbour’s best interests.

🙏🏻 You sacrificed your life for us, Jesus. Help us to perceive every sacrifice we make as a manifestation of Your humility. Let us honour You by putting others ahead of ourselves.
