GALATIANS 4:1-7
In the classic tale “The Gift of the Magi” by O. Henry, Jim and Della, a young married couple who are having financial difficulties, are mentioned. Della’s treasured possession is her long, gorgeous hair, while Jim’s is a gold watch. In the spirit of sacrifice, Della sells her hair to buy a chain for Jim’s watch, and Jim sells his watch to buy combs for Della’s hair.
The narrative serves as a reminder that genuine love is based on sacrifice and that sacrifice is the best measure of true love. The birth of Christ is a story driven by sacrifice. (Matthew 1:21).
It was predetermined that Christ would arrive to save us from our fallen state long before His birth. Christianity’s central tenet is that God gave His Son as a sacrifice because He believed that humanity was worthy of it.
