THE TWO BEARS

PROVERBS 13:10-20

A couple went camping. One evening, as they were making their way back to their campground, they noticed two male bears boxing each other’s ears in the midst of a grassland. They halted to observe.

They inquired of a hiker who was passing by about the conflict. “A young female,” he said.

They questioned, “Where is she?”

He laughed, saying, “Oh, she left about twenty minutes ago.” They concluded that the struggle at hand was not over the female bear but rather over who was the toughest creature.

Most disputes are motivated by pride rather than matters of policy and principle, or even right and wrong. Pride, the need to be right, the desire to get our way, the defense of one’s territory, or the ego fuels conflict.

The wise, on the other hand, are those who listen and learn, who allow themselves to be taught, and who allow their own opinions to be corrected. This is God’s knowledge, which brings peace wherever it goes.

🙏🏻 Dear heavenly Father, help us as we battle pride today.
