PROJECT BABEL

GENESIS 11:1-9; PSALM 127:1

The question of the project that two workers were working on was raised. One said he was constructing a garage. The other said that he was constructing a cathedral. One man was laying bricks a day later. When an inquiry was made about his coworker, he responded, “Oh, he got fired.” “He insisted on erecting a cathedral instead of a garage.”

The ancient Babel construction site saw a similar occurrence. A group of people decided to build a city and a tower that would reach the heavens and connect their world (Genesis 11:4). But God forbade them from developing a big, egotistical project. As a result, He came down, put a halt to the effort, dispersed humanity over the world, and gave each individual a unique language (vv. 8–9).

God revealed His plan for the people to Abraham (12:1–3) in order for them to see Him as the answer to their challenges. He would demonstrate to the world how to search for a city whose architect and builder is God through the faith of Abraham and his descendants (Hebrews 11:8–10).

Our faith does not originate in our ideas and solutions. God alone and what He can accomplish in and through us are the cornerstones of faith.

🙏🏻 Heavenly Father, help us to look to You for guidance in all that we do.
