2 KINGS 5:1-15
A complicated game using sticks and string was being played by two boys. After some time, the older lad frowned at his friend and stated, “You are not doing it right.” “It is my game, and we play it my way.” Early on, we develop the impulse to do things our way. Early in life, we develop the impulse to do things our way.
Naaman was someone who was used to getting his way in everything. Naaman, however, had a serious illness. He wanted Elisha to come to him, as he was so eager to be healed. He anticipated being treated with tremendous respect and ceremony. So he was indignant when Elisha just told him to take baths in the Jordan River! He refused (2 Kings 5:10–12). He was only cured when he eventually chose to be humble and follow God’s instructions (vv. 13–14).
Perhaps we all have told God, “I will do it my way,” at some point. Yet He always has the finest plan of action. Therefore, let us pray to God for humble hearts that will voluntarily follow His guidance rather than our own.
🙏🏻Give us humble hearts that are willing to follow Your way in everything.
