FAILURE IS NOT FINAL

JOHN 18:15-27

We all want to be remembered for our “finest hour.” When he declared, “Thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God,” the apostle Peter may have had his finest moment (John 6:69). But occasionally, we let our mistakes define who we are. Peter walked outside and sobbed vehemently after repeatedly denying that he knew Jesus (Matthew 26:75; John 18).

We all have shortcomings, just like Peter, whether it is in our interpersonal interactions, our battle against sin, or our devotion to God. Failure is not final, however. Happily, this is true in our spiritual lives as well. In John 21, Jesus used the repentant Peter to preach and bring many people to the Savior. Jesus also pardoned Peter for his transgression.

Failure does not necessarily mean the end. Those who turn back to God are compassionately restored.
