MARK 4:35-41
During a storm, a retired pastor and his wife left their home and headed to a shelter. They went back to their house after the storm had passed to get a few items, but all they could find floating in the water were a few family photos. Then, as he removed his father’s photograph from its frame to allow it to dry, $366 fell out—exactly the amount required for two round-trip airline tickets to Atlanta to join their daughter. They discovered they could rely on Jesus to provide for their needs.
The dramatic story of Mark 4:35–41 served as the day’s curriculum for the disciples, teaching them to trust Jesus in a storm. They were to cross the Sea of Galilee to the other side, as Jesus commanded. He afterward fell asleep in the boat. The disciples were terrified and anxious as a sudden, furious storm rolled in. Jesus merely rebuked the storm as they woke Him up.
Persecution, financial difficulties, diseases, disappointments, loneliness, etc. are all storms that we all encounter, and Jesus does not always stop them. However, He has promised to never abandon us (Hebrews 13:5). If He does not calm the storm, He will keep us calm.
🙏🏻 Lord Jesus, calm our storms and our hearts.
