THE MOST PERFECT WEDDING EVER

REVELATION 19:7; 21:1-8

Jewish wedding customs saw an addition around the fourth century AD. The groom ends by crushing a wine glass with his foot. One explanation for this is that the breaking of the glass represents the temple’s destruction in AD 70. Young couples are urged to keep in mind that God’s home has been destroyed as they build their own homes.

However, God is not homeless. He actually made us, His disciples, His new home. Christians are both the bride of Christ and the temple where God resides in the metaphors of Scripture. God is assembling His people to construct a brand new house that will serve as His permanent abode. He is also planning the wedding, which will involve the entire God family going back to the beginning of time, while also getting ready for the bride.

While occasionally uncomfortable, our role is simple. God works in us to conform us to the image of His Son, Jesus, and we actively participate in that process. Our Lord will then offer us to Himself without a stain or wrinkle at the most perfect wedding of all time. Having no flaws, we will be holy (Ephesians 5:27). All grief and suffering will stop with this marriage.

🙏🏻”Finish then Thy new creation;

Pure and spotless let us be;

Let us see Thy great salvation

Perfectly restored in Thee”

— Charles Wesley (1747)
