One desperate mother traded her vote for a bag of rice during an election. Taxes increased six months after her candidate won. Everything has gone up in price since then, including rice!
Political corruption is not a recent phenomenon in nations all over the world. Corruption of the spirit is nothing new either. Jesus was tempted by Satan to “sell” His convictions (Matthew 4:1–10). When He was hungry and worn out, the tempter approached Him. He offered Him instant gratification, freshly baked bread in a matter of seconds, a delivery made by miracle, and the kingdoms of the world and their glory.
Jesus, though, was wiser. He was aware of how risky shortcuts were. They might promise a path free from misery, but the pain they carry is ultimately far greater than anything we can fathom.
God can help us when we are tempted. We can rely on Him and the truth of His Word to guide us away from dangerous shortcuts.
🙏🏻Lord Jesus, help me not to take shortcuts to satisfaction.
