1 PETER 1:17-21
They recently bought a new pair of boots for their 2-year-old son. He wore them till it was time for bed because he was so excited. But the following day, he put on his old sneakers and completely forgot about the boots. “I wish he knew how much things cost,” his father said.
The boots were expensive, but a little child had no concept of salary, labour, or taxes. Although a child accepts gifts with open arms, we are aware that he is unable to fully comprehend the efforts his parents go through in order to provide him with new items.
We occasionally act like children. We welcome God’s gifts through His numerous mercies, but do we show our appreciation? Do we take the price into account?
The price was high—higher than the cost of corruptible items like silver or gold. It required the precious blood of Christ, as a lamb without blemish or spot, as we read in 1 Peter (1:18–19). Jesus paid the ultimate price by giving His life for us and bringing us into His family. And God brought Him back to life (v. 21).
We tend to be really grateful and more cautious when we are aware of the price of our salvation.
