GENESIS 39:1-6, 20-23
A common greeting at Chinese New Year is “may all things happen according to your will.” Even if it sounds very good, things work out best when God’s will, rather than mine, prevails.
If given the option, Joseph would not have chosen to become an Egyptian slave. He was “successful” despite his captivity because the Lord was with him.
Joseph never would have chosen to serve a prison sentence in Egypt. But when he was wrongly accused of sexual assault, he ended up in prison. It turned out that his descent into prison was the beginning of his ascension to the highest position in Egypt. Few people would voluntarily choose to receive a promotion like God did for Joseph.
God brought Joseph to Egypt for a reason, and He put us here for a reason as well. We could ask, like Jesus did prior to going to the cross, for His will to be done rather than hoping everything would go our way (Matthew 26:39).
🙏🏻Dear Lord, help us to place You first and to look for what You are doing and want to do in our lives.
