STORYTELLERS

COLOSSIANS 1:13-23

Union Major General Lew Wallace served as governor of the New Mexico territory in the years following the American Civil War (1861–1865), although New Mexico had not yet been accepted as a state. Many of the people who make up the almost mythic history of the Wild West came into contact with him because of his work there. Wallace wrote Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ here, which has been described as “the most influential Christian book” of the 19th century.

Wallace observed the atrocities of the Civil War and the Wild West, which, to him, were the worst effects of sin on humanity. In his best-selling book as well as in his daily interactions, he understood the power of Jesus Christ’s life story as the only source of salvation and peace.

The high point of our lives as followers of Christ was when God liberated us from the grip of Satan and brought us into the realm of His love, where we had redemption through Christ’s blood (Colossians 1:13-14). We now have the honour of narrating God’s wonderful redemptive work.

The difference Christ makes in our lives is a story worth telling.

🙏Lord Jesus, make us wonderful story tellers.
