PSALM 136:1-9,23-26
We have a culture of disposability more than ever before. Consider a few items that are intended to be thrown away: razors, water bottles, flashlights, plastic cups, and plastic eating utensils. A product is used, thrown away, and then replaced.
Greater expressions of this disposable culture are also seen. Relationships are frequently viewed as optional when actual commitment is involved. Attempts at marriage often fail. Just before retirement, long-term employees are let go in favour of more affordable alternatives. A star athlete switches teams and leaves. Everything appears to be temporary.
However, our unchanging God has promised that His compassionate kindness will stand the test of time. In Psalm 136, the songwriter exalts this marvelous promise by praising God’s miracles, creation, and personality.
The generosity and abundance of God’s grace, mercy, and peace are unfathomable.
