BETTER THAN EXPECTED

EPHESIANS 5:15-20

Interruptions are a common occurrence. Each day hardly goes according to plan.

Issues and problems abound in life. Powers above our control regularly derail our arrangements. The list is vast and ever-evolving: Illness. Quarrel. There are traffic on the roads. Lack of concentration. There are issues with the appliances. Insensitivity. Incompetence. Agitation. Cowardice.

The other end of interruption, though, is something we cannot see. We believe it exists to frustrate us, make things more difficult, and derail our plans. Interruptions, on the contrary, could be God’s way of safeguarding us from an unknown danger or a chance to exhibit His grace and forgiveness. It could be the beginning of something far better than we had hoped for. It could also be a test of our resilience in the face of hardship. Whatever it is, even if we do not understand God’s purpose, we may rest assured that it is to make us more like Jesus and to advance His kingdom on earth.

God’s people have had their lives interrupted throughout history. God, on the other hand, has His plans. Realising this, we can give Him thanks, remembering that He is giving us a chance to redeem the time (Ephesians 5:16, 20).

What occurs to us is insignificant in comparison to what God accomplishes in and through us.

🙏🏼Lord, the little things in life seem to get to us all the time, and there seem to be so many of them.
May we not give up when we are interrupted, and may You help us see You.
